Job Summary Assists in construction inspections under limited supervision for projects involving thermoplastic, raised pavement markers, guardrail, and other areas. Ensures pavement markings are placed as indicated on project plans and in accordance with temperature restrictions and standard drawings. Maintains diaries and field notes, completes routine forms for the Director of Construction. Assists certified inspectors in obtaining construction samples and entering sample information into AASHTOWare Project to generate sample IDs. Performs limited testing under direct supervision and gains experience in inspection and sampling across disciplines in preparation to become a certified inspector. Ensure pavement markings are placed as indicated on project plans and in accordance with temperature restrictions and standard drawings. Keep diaries and field notes; complete routine forms for the Director of Construction. Assist certified inspectors in obtaining necessary construction samples. Obtain material samples to be tested; enter sample information into AASHTOWare Project to generate sample IDs; perform some test under direct supervision. Gain experience in inspection and sampling across disciplines of construction to prepare to become a certified inspector in those areas. Assist with administrative duties as directed by supervisor. Assist with traffic and erosion control inspections with intention of becoming certified in these areas. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum & Additional Requirements A high school diploma or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Physical Demands The essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel and the ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, and kneel. The position requires driving and walking for extended periods, traversing rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and dealing with natural environmental hazards. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Work may be required outside normal schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Exposure to outside environments in all weather conditions and noise is possible.
