Director, Behavioral Health Services

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Behavioral Health Services for a mission-driven nonprofit organization providing social and behavioral health services throughout San Diego County. This is a full-time, exempt, onsite position based in National City, CA, with some work at additional sites throughout San Diego County. POSITION OVERVIEW The Director of Behavioral Health Services will provide senior-level leadership and oversight for the organization’s behavioral health and social service programs, ensuring high-quality, effective, and mission-aligned services. This leader will oversee program operations, support staff and organizational development, and drive continued excellence across behavioral health services. The ideal candidate brings strong executive-level management experience within social services and a passion for advancing accessible, impactful community-based care. RESPONSIBILITIES Provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s behavioral health services and social service programs. Oversee program effectiveness, service quality, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals and community needs. Lead, mentor, and support behavioral health program staff while fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team environment. Develop and implement program strategies, policies, and initiatives that strengthen service delivery and organizational outcomes. Collaborate with executive leadership and internal stakeholders on program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement. Represent the organization and its behavioral health services with external partners, community stakeholders, and other relevant organizations. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, social services, behavioral health, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated success in senior or executive‑level management of social service programs and services. Strong leadership, program management, strategic planning, and organizational development skills. Experience overseeing behavioral health or community‑based social service programs strongly preferred. A valid California professional license such as LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC is preferred. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The anticipated salary range for this position is $115,000–$130,000, with some flexibility based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, exempt position.
