We provide our employees a top-rated benefits package, supportive work culture, and more!## **GENERAL DESCRIPTION** Pharmacists fill medication orders/prescriptions, monitor patient drug therapies, counsel patients, document interventions, and provide drug information in compliance with all state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy including, accepted standards of pharmacy practice. # CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES1. Interprets medication orders/prescriptions (verbal and written) and enters to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Uses two patient identifiers to accurately identify each patient.2. Prepares and dispenses medications per orders/prescriptions written by licensed prescribers for outpatients according to established policies and procedures.3. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals.4. Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies and procedures.5. Monitors drug therapy regimens for interactions, allergies, unapproved abbreviations, and appropriateness of drug and dose, providing consultation and clarification to providers as necessary.6. Provides drug information to patients and their families.7. Provides drug information to professional staff.8. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the activities of the pharmacy technicians.9. Performs work within specified time frames. Adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule.10. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.11. Fosters a team environment by working cooperatively with all staff. Voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner.12. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information.13. Assists with the determination and maintenance of adequate inventory levels.14. Adheres to medical center and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.15. Inspects medication areas for outdated medications, proper storage of medications, proper medication administration records, and availability of reference materials.16. Accepts and completes special duties to be performed on a regular basis. Examples include controlled substance accountability, record-keeping and reconciliation; crash cart inspection; medication area inspections; quality assurance reporting; newsletter contribution and other special projects.17. Participates in pharmacy staff meetings and other committees and work groups as assigned.18. Completes departmental education plan as it applies to the pharmacist role.19. Documents interventions accurately and appropriately.20. Performs other duties as assigned.21. Maintains flexible availability to meet the needs of the business.## **PERFORMANCE STANDARDS**1. Dispense medications accurately & timely2. Completes all competence assessment requirements.3. Completes monthly medication area inspections in a timely manner.6. Documents clinical interventions.## **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**1. Graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy.2. License in state of Iowa as a registered pharmacist; eligible for licensure as a registered pharmacist in the state of Iowa.3. Continuing education in good standing. ## **IDEAL CANDIDATE****1. Wants up to 2-3 shifts per week with flexibility to cover planned shifts as well as unplanned shifts.****2. Able to work the following shifts: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm, 8am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5pm, 9:30am-6pm, 11:30am-8pm.
