General Function:
The Systems Administrator role is to ensure the security, stability, and integrity of the systems and infrastructure at VOAWW. Managing infrastructure compliance, data backup procedures, hardware integration, software upgrades, and disaster recovery initiatives. The person will also be responsible for documenting and over-seeing all policies and procedures relating to the operations and support of our agency and supports the agency by establishing and managing a secure, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and computing environment.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of M365, Azure/Entra, network security, wireless technologies, enterprise security solutions, backup and disaster recovery processes, and mobile device management. They will also have a deep understanding of network and systems management, be proactive in identifying and solving challenges, and be eager to optimize our computing environment. Further, they will perform upgrades to the network and server systems to ensure their optimal operation including leading technology projects and work closely with other IT professionals and departments to deliver cross-functional support and projects.
Principal Activities:
- Lead and support IT projects, including the design, deployment, and upgrading of IT systems and services.
- Collaborate with the VP of Infrastructure and IT staff to align technology systems with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
- Define and implement IT infrastructure strategies, overseeing systems architecture and processes to maintain a robust network.
- Administer and support M365 services, including but not limited to Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams.
- Manage Azure/Entra cloud services and ensure optimal performance and security.
- Implement and maintain network infrastructure, including Meraki wireless solutions.
- Optimize internal IT infrastructure for greater productivity to help the agency stay compliant with cybersecurity regulations.
- Configure and manage Sophos Enterprise Security tools to ensure robust cybersecurity.
- Manage software updates and patch management across all systems.
- Manage system risk assessments, author components of the I.T. security plan, disaster recovery plan and business continuity plan.
- Enforce cybersecurity protocols and manage data security measures, including backup and disaster recovery processes.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolution.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.
- Implement and maintain data backup and disaster recovery solutions to protect critical data and ensure business continuity.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend equipment upgrades to maximize performance.
- Evaluate vendors and test strategies for new hardware and software, ensuring budget alignment and value.
- Evaluate and implement policies for data privacy and network security, staying current with industry best practices.
- Ensure systems and software remain up to date and in good functioning order through regular patching and maintenance.
- Configure and conduct system audits. Monitor server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, backup reports, vulnerability scans, and internet and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity as appropriate.
- Assist in planning and managing the annual IT budget, focusing on cost-effectiveness while meeting technology needs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess IT needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions that align with organizational and program goals.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, or closely related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree.
- Knowledge of database troubleshooting and administration
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of cloud technologies, specifically Microsoft Azure
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure
- Working knowledge of server technology
- Technical knowledge, both of current technology and emerging trends
- 3rd level qualification/tier 3 engineering experience
Certification Requirements (Strongly Suggested)
- Microsoft - Azure Architect Expert
- Microsoft – Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Microsoft – Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
- Microsoft – Azure Network Engineer Associate
- LPIC-2: Linux Network Professional Certification
- AWS – Solutions Architect Professional
- AWS – SysOps Administrator – Associate
- ICS2 - CISSP
- Cisco – CCNA or better (CCNP)
- Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in network and systems administration. Experience includes networking systems, firewalls, database administration and automation tools.
- Experience (5+ years) in information technology working with the Microsoft platform client-server technologies.
- Progressive (3+ years) technical experience in systems administration, troubleshooting, maintenance-related programming, and production support.
- Progressive (2+ years) of experience participating in or leading IT projects.
- Experience (2+ years) with large scale, complex systems.
- Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
- Proven experience in network management, including experience with Meraki wireless technologies.
- Solid experience with Sophos Enterprise Security or similar endpoint detection and response (EDR) cybersecurity solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in managing backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes.
- Experience with patch management and mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
- Ability to identify, write and implement agency policies and procedures.
- Strong technical skills in managing complex IT systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Prior experience working at a Managed Service Provider/ Managed Security Service Provider
- Engaging at all levels within an organization right to C level
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
