Registered Respiratory Therapist II PRN

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist II PRN at Johnston-Willis Hospital, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care within a collaborative healthcare team. Working within the Healthcare & Medical Services department, you will assess, plan, and provide respiratory therapy treatments to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions across a variety of clinical settings, including emergency, critical care, surgical, and general medical units.

You will be responsible for performing comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpreting clinical data, and implementing evidence-based respiratory care plans in accordance with hospital policies and physician orders. Your daily responsibilities will include administering oxygen and aerosol therapies, bronchodilator and other respiratory medications, performing chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques, managing non-invasive ventilation and mechanical ventilators, and assisting with advanced airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation when needed.

As an experienced Respiratory Therapist II in a PRN (as-needed) role, you will be expected to function with a high degree of clinical competence and independence, prioritizing care for patients with varying levels of acuity. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to monitor patient responses, adjust therapy, and communicate changes in patient status. You will participate in patient and family education regarding respiratory disease management, use of inhalers and home equipment, and strategies to promote optimal lung health.

In this role, you will also support the hospital’s commitment to innovation and best practices by adhering to evidence-based protocols, participating in performance improvement initiatives, and maintaining accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record. You may assist with arterial punctures and blood gas sampling, analyze blood gas results, and contribute to clinical decision-making regarding respiratory support and weaning strategies.
