Description:

The SICU population is specialized, including trauma patients and those recovering from complex surgeries. Patient diagnoses may include acute ventilator need, COVID with high oxygen demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, and trauma cases. Nurses may provide care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery and other complicated surgical procedures. Responsibilities include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, arterial line management, and blood product administration. First-time travelers are accepted. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Nurses may be required to float to meet facility needs. Patient ratios are 1:2-3 based on skill level and acuity. All staff will provide care for adult and geriatric patients. The unit accommodates conscious sedation at the bedside and performs various procedures, including chest tube insertions and bronchoscopies. Special equipment includes ICU specialty beds and continuous renal replacement therapy machines. Nurses will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including respiratory services and pharmacy. The average daily census is around 30 patients. Nurses must be able to manage complex cases with multiple organ system involvement.
