Position Summary

The Store Manager-in-Training (MIT), serves as a flexible leader who provides management coverage and operational support across multiple store locations. This position is responsible for leading the team, driving sales and efficiency, providing excellent customer service, as well as ensuring safety, compliance, and profitability. The Manager-in-Training steps into any assigned store as needed to fill in for store managers on leave, during vacancies, or for special projects. This is a salary-exempt position that reports to the District Manager on the maintenance and operation of the company-owned retail facility. Job Requirements, Functions, and Responsibilities

NOTE: The list below has some essential duties, responsibilities and functions of the Manager-in-Training position and the minimum mental/physical requirements. This job description also incorporates the duties and physical requirements of all other positions in the store as necessary to provide back up or fill in.

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of store operations and company policies and procedures.
• Oversee, or share supervision of a team of 10-15, consisting of Customer Service Representatives and Assistant Managers.
• Provide management coverage for store locations as assigned by the District Manager.
• Travel between assigned stores with flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and priorities.
• Perform environmental and safety audits in compliance with governmental regulations. For example: Weights & Measures; Gasoline Inspection logs, etc.
• Manage and analyze sales data and expenses to optimize profitability. Provide timely product surveys and other reports or financial analysis.
• Maintain staffing levels in accordance with the needs of the business in order to deliver exemplary customer service and provide adequate shift coverage. (The FSM may be required to cover any shift in the event that no other employees are available to work).
• Prepare performance reviews for all employees, providing feedback to the District Manager.
• Adhere to payroll deadlines, maintain employee records and timesheets, enforces attendance.
• Provide coaching to the team, especially to Assistant Managers to promote growth from within the company.
• Build supportive and professional relationships with employees, vendors, and service providers alike.
• Delegate tasks effectively, ensure cleanliness of the store and maintain inventory levels.
• Address and resolve customer complaints in a timely and professional manner.
• Supervise daily operations including cash handling, inventory control, merchandising, and loss prevention.
• Account for all money received and disbursed and follow all banking requirements.
• Performs additional duties assigned by the District Manager.
• Uphold the image standards of the company and 7-Eleven brand within the community.
• Position requires FSM to clock in and out for accurate store allocation of time and attendance record keeping.
• Ensure compliance with any and all policies and regulations, especially new hire paperwork and employment posters.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 60 lbs. from ground to waist level as needed (to replenish fountain syrups, stock/maintain inventory, etc.).
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 30 lbs. from ground to overhead up to 30 minutes of shift (with appropriate safety equipment).
• Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 lbs.
• Ability to bend at waist with some twisting up to 1 hour of shift.
• Ability to grasp, reach and manipulate objects with hands; work requires hand-eye coordination, including climbing a ladder to retrieve materials or place signage, up to 4 hours of shift.

Working Conditions

• Employee performs approximately 95% of duties indoors.
• Exposure to intermittent indoor cold temperature extremes when working in walk-in cooler or freezer.
• Work in small spaces at times; work independently.
• Work with minimal direction and periodic supervision.
• The role requires regular travel to store locations with flexibility.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials

• FSMs utilize the following electronic equipment: POS (cash register), store telephone, lottery machine (Denver only), Gaming Machine cash dispensers (Las Vegas only), money order machine, EBT machine, Western Union equipment, food-preparation equipment, etc.
• Employee utilizes the following manual equipment: cleaning supplies (e.g., rubber gloves, mop, broom, degreaser/defoamer, etc.), flat cart, hand truck, grocery basket, etc.
• Employee handles liquids, cloth, plastic, glass, paper, rubber, and cleaning solvents.

Qualifications

• Experience in sales or retail management required, preferably in a convenience store.
• Maintain a valid driver's license and adequate transportation (required at time of hire).
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team and improve employee performance, providing support and training as needed.
• Ability to communicate orally and verbally in English.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service, demonstrated for the team.
• Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.
• Ability to perform basic computer functions and produce accurate reports.
• Ability to manage cash and inventory.
• Understanding of break-even cents per gallon and drivers of performance.
• Strong merchandising skills.
