Data Center Technician

Our client is seeking Data Center Support Technicians to support engineering operations across multiple Maryland facilities. These positions are designed to provide operational support to existing engineering teams in data center and critical infrastructure environments.

These are not advanced troubleshooting or heavy repair roles. The primary focus is:

• Site monitoring
• Alarm response and escalation
• Facility rounds
• Vendor/contractor escorting
• Supporting on-site engineers
• Assisting with basic PMs alongside senior engineers
• Responding to incidents and contacting on-call personnel as needed

Candidates should have basic familiarity with data center infrastructure and strong mechanical aptitude, but are not expected to independently diagnose major electrical or HVAC failures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor facility systems and respond to alarms/incidents
• Escalate issues to on-call engineers and leadership as needed
• Conduct facility and equipment rounds
• Escort vendors, contractors, and visitors through secure environments
• Support engineering staff with daily operational activities
• Assist with preventive maintenance alongside senior engineers
• Follow documented SOPs and response procedures
• Maintain professionalism in client-facing environments
• Support shift coverage for PTO, vacations, and operational needs

Requirements

• Experience in data centers, facilities maintenance, engineering support, or related environments
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Basic understanding of:
  • UPS systems
  • Mechanical/electrical infrastructure
  • Alarm escalation procedures
• Ability to follow SOPs and escalation processes
• Professional communication and presentation
• Ability to work flexible schedules after training
• Comfortable working in 24/7 operational environments

Preferred Experience

• Data center operations
• Critical facilities or mission critical facilities
• Commercial facilities maintenance
• Electrical or mechanical systems exposure
• Facilities engineering support

Baltimore (100 E Pratt Street):

• Class A commercial office building with critical systems
• More client-facing/high-visibility environment
• Strong emphasis on professionalism and presentation
• Not a fully generator-backed data center

Owings Mills (4525 Painters Mill Road):

• True 24/7 operational data center
• Fully generator-backed infrastructure
• May share candidate pool with Baltimore due to proximity

Hagerstown (17415 Progress Way):

• True 24/7 operational data center
• Fully generator-backed infrastructure
• 2 openings available
• Approximately 1 hour from Baltimore, likely requiring local candidates

Candidate FAQ / Good to Know

1. Will I be expected to repair major systems?
• No. Major repairs and advanced troubleshooting are handled by vendors and senior engineers.
2. Will I work alone?
• Generally no. Most work is performed alongside another engineer. Limited solo coverage may occur after training with on-call support available.
3. Will training be provided?
• Yes. Candidates will receive training before independently covering shifts.
4. What type of equipment will I work around?
• Candidates may work around:
• UPS systems
• HVAC/chiller infrastructure
• Generators
• Electrical systems
• Data center monitoring systems
• Hands-on work is limited and performed alongside senior staff when required.

Employment Details

• Contract role through September 30, 2026
• JLL's facility management contract ends September 30, 2026
• CBRE will assume facility management afterward and strong performers will be considered for extension through CBRE.
