Position Summary The Molecular Technologist – Solid Tumor is responsible for performing routine high complexity molecular techniques that include but are not limited to nucleic acid extractions and next generation sequencing (NGS). This position works under the direction of the supervisor and follows standard laboratory procedures and policies. Molecular Technologists develop foundational skills in molecular workflows, quality systems and data documentation while contributing to team goals. Job Responsibilities Follows established laboratory protocols governed by standard operating procedures (SOPs). Performs molecular techniques with proficiency: nucleic acid extraction; quantification and normalization; PCR; DNA methylation analysis; and next generation sequencing (NGS). Operates and maintains liquid handling robots. Maintains laboratory equipment, accessories and instruments used in clinical processing by performing routine maintenance. Prepares Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) documents for nonconformance events observed during the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical clinical laboratory testing. Participates in continuous process improvements, validations and proficiency testing. Proficiency in the Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) tracking system to accurately perform and record day-to-day tasks. Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training, technical abilities and experience. Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing. Adhere to and document all the laboratory’s quality control policies and activities as governed by FDA, CAP, CLIA, NYS and ISO regulatory standards. Perform instrument maintenance and procedural calibrations. Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the supervisor, manager or director. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications; and Perform high complexity testing under the onsite, direct supervision of a general supervisor as defined in the CLIA regulations. Accepts other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications We are seeking to hire a Molecular Technologist with varying levels of experience. Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Demonstrate skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. General working knowledge of the internet for business use, and skilled in operating office equipment. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Nucleic acid extraction experience. Next Generation Sequencing Experience. Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations. Physical Demands Will work at a computer that requires the use of copiers and PDF scanners. Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test. Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required. Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. May be required to handle and/or may have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formaldehyde, xylene, Clorox bleach, DAB and alcohol, which emit fumes. Formaldehyde, xylene, and DAB are carcinogenic. Other 2nd Shift Hours: 1:30pm-12:00am This position may require evenings/nights, weekends and Holidays.
