Qualified Mental Health Specialist

Position Title: QMHS Support Staff

Reports To: Clinical Manager/Clinical Director

Purpose: Under the direction of a clinical manager, the worker provides support to consumers and their families or caregivers with mental health related issues. The work will utilize intervention and activities that are strength-based and focused on promoting recovery, symptom reduction, while increasing coping skills and help to achieve the highest level of functioning in the community.

Position Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations. The worker is responsible for providing medical necessary services to the consumer(s) in accordance with the treatment plan and diagnostic assessment that is designed to meet the mental health, educational, vocational, residential, financial, social and other needs of the consumer.
• Follow Mental Health Services guidelines and ensure that treatment plan authorizations and reauthorizations, and updated diagnostic assessments and all other assessments are current and do not lapse or expire.
• Serve as an intricate member of the service team to ensure continuity of care and supports the services 24 hours a day, seven days per week as necessary.
• Provide structured face-to-face scheduled sessions to consumer at least one per week or as needed based on the treatment plans.
• Provide services in the home, school, office and community setting.
• Ensure that the majority of mental health services are primarily rendered in the community and ensure that limited services remain clinic based.
• Document encounters within 24-48 hours of service or phone call.
• Report to supervision and in-house trainings as scheduled.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate staff meetings and trainings.
• Work collaboratively with and provide ongoing updates to the clinical team including psychiatrist as needed.
• Identify, establish, and continually collaborate with community agencies, providers, and natural supports and advise the team to make referrals as needed.
• Listen/respond to; interact with clients, co-workers, management, and other professionals in a non-judgmental manner.
• Communicate objectively, thoroughly, accurately, concisely in a manner consistent with the cognitive level of the persons involved.
• Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of the organizational mission and shared purpose to assist individuals by providing quality services.
• Participate in efforts to enhance service provision to consumers.
• Act and interact to build cohesiveness.
• Assist with building a positive image for the agency by demonstrating support and cooperation with other units and community agencies.
• Demonstrate professional work ethics as evidenced by overall dependability, conscientiousness, and timeliness.
• Ensure all necessary licenses and/or certifications remain current.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or other clinical based discipline preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with at least two years experience working in the field of mental health required.
• Must be able to pass a satisfactory background check, drug test, and child abuse registry.
• Ability to successfully complete service-specific training courses.
• Proficient in clinical theories and their practical application.
• Computer literate; experience with MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualities

• Successful applicant will be well organized, have excellent time management skills and be able to work well both independently and with a team.
• Have a valid drivers’ license, reliable transportation and insurance.

Benefits

• This role is a 1099 independent contractor position. Compensation will be paid on a contract basis, and benefits are not included.
