This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in medical billing with opportunities for advancement into leadership.Position SummaryThe Medical Collections Specialist is responsible for managing assigned accounts receivable by following up with insurance companies to ensure timely payment of medical claims. This role plays a critical part in reducing aging accounts receivable, resolving claim issues, and maximizing reimbursement through effective insurance follow-up and denial resolution.The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare billing environment.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredMinimum of one (1) year of recent experience in medical collections, insurance follow-up, medical billing, or healthcare accounts receivable requiredAssociate degree preferredExperience with behavioral health, mental health, or substance abuse billing preferredKnowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance guidelinesWorking knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and medical terminologyExperience using electronic medical records (EMR) and medical billing softwareStrong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and OutlookAbility to work full-time in our Doraville officePreferred Software ExperienceCollaborateMDKipu EMRAvailityEssential ResponsibilitiesReview and manage assigned accounts receivable to identify unpaid, denied, or underpaid insurance claimsContact commercial insurance carriers, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers regarding claim statusInvestigate claim denials and determine the appropriate corrective actionSubmit corrected claims, appeals, reconsiderations, and supporting documentation when necessaryFollow up on outstanding claims according to payer guidelines and company standardsVerify payments, contractual adjustments, write-offs, and reimbursement accuracyMaintain detailed and accurate account documentation within the billing systemWork aging reports to meet collection and productivity goalsCollaborate with Billing, Appeals, Payment Posting, and other internal departments to resolve claim issuesIdentify denial trends and communicate recurring issues to leadershipMaintain HIPAA compliance and adhere to all federal, state, and payer regulationsParticipate in departmental meetings, training, and continuous process improvement initiativesSkills & CompetenciesInsurance claims follow-upMedical collections and accounts receivable managementDenial management and appealsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExceptional attention to detailStrong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to prioritize multiple deadlinesAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a teamCustomer service and professional communication skillsPerformance ExpectationsMeet established daily, weekly, and monthly productivity goalsMaintain accurate and complete account documentationReduce aging accounts receivable within assigned inventoryEnsure compliance with HIPAA and payer regulationsContribute to continuous improvement of billing and collection processesWhy Join Mount Yonah Medical Billing?At MYMB, we invest in our employees and believe in promoting from within.
