Job Overview Location: Rangely, CO. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is hiring a Highway Maintenance Specialist who holds a Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License. Total annual compensation is $53,934 ($53,934 base pay). Responsibilities Plow snow Operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, and tractor mowers Mow grass and weeds Remove debris from roadways, culverts, tunnels, and other structures Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt Dig ditches Install and repair guardrails, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and lighting Fill potholes and roadway cracks Set out signs and cones for traffic control Remove and cover graffiti Install pavement markings and striping Stop or slow traffic in emergency situations Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment Minimum Qualifications At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience. Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes and eligibility to drive in Colorado at the time of hire. Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new software or equipment. Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position. Conditions of Employment Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado. If you have a non‑Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, you must be eligible to drive in Colorado at the time of hire and must transfer your CDL to Colorado within 30 days if you relocate. Must pass a pre‑employment screening which may include a social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks. May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e., drug test) and DOT physical through our medical provider. On‑call work on a rotating basis and subject to call during emergencies. Shift work required. Essential Services Designation – required to report without delay for essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare. May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes’ driving time in normal weather conditions from the work site. Must attend mandatory training: two weeks for new employees and one week each year for veteran CDOT employees. May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 months to 1 year as a condition of appointment. Must respond to emergencies outside regular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and have a phone available for emergency contact. Compensation & Benefits Annual compensation: $53,934. Base pay: $2,074.39 per biweekly period (26 periods per year). Overtime rate: $38.89 per hour. Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Life and disability insurance.
