Interim Controller

We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to oversee the financial operations of a large nonprofit organization that manages approximately 50 federal, state, and private grant-funded programs. This individual will work closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and program leaders to ensure the organization remains financially strong, compliant with funding requirements, and well-positioned to achieve its mission. The ideal candidate will have strong nonprofit accounting experience, grant management knowledge, cash flow oversight skills, and experience working with government-funded programs, including AmeriCorps. Key Responsibilities Oversee the organization's accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and day-to-day finance operations. Manage federal, state, and private grants, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with funding requirements. Monitor cash flow and prepare regular forecasts to support organizational planning and decision-making. Lead the annual budget process and provide ongoing financial analysis to leadership. Prepare and present financial reports to executive leadership, finance committees, and the Board of Directors. Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements. Maintain strong financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Supervise and support the finance team while promoting collaboration and accountability. Partner with program and operational leaders to support strategic planning and maximize available funding opportunities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including nonprofit experience. Strong background in grant accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. Experience working with government funding sources and grant-funded programs. Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, audits, and board reporting. Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills. Experience presenting financial information to senior leadership and Boards of Directors.
