Assistant Professor: Insect Ecologist University of Georgia, Department of Entomology, Athens, GA. Posting Number: F2615P | Effective Start Date: 08/01/2026 | Job Closing: Open until filled Position Summary The Department of Entomology invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor (9‑month academic year) in insect ecology, based on the Athens campus. The successful candidate will develop a nationally prominent, extramurally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and serve on departmental and university committees. Responsibilities Research (70%): Build an externally funded research program focusing on insect ecology, including aquatic and riparian insects, predator‑prey and plant‑insect interactions, ecosystem roles, and insect biodiversity/conservation. Engage in collaborative, multidisciplinary projects. Teaching (25%): Deliver courses in insect ecology, aquatic entomology, general entomology, insect natural history, and related areas. Provide classroom instruction and research mentorship to undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students. Service (5%): Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities and contribute to outreach and professional societies. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Entomology, Ecology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated training and expertise in field and empirical techniques in entomology, ecology, and/or biological sciences. Record of scholarly activity in peer‑reviewed journals. Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral research experience (≥1 year). Prior success in competitive funding. Substantial teaching and mentoring experience (≥1 year). Engagement with professional societies and outreach activities. Teaching Philosophy Applicants should include a one‑page statement of teaching philosophy addressing how they engage students at all levels. Research Philosophy Applicants should provide a statement of research philosophy (≤2 pages). A 25‑page CV is required.
