Speech Language Pathologist Assistant - 5.5 Hours/Day

Reports to Speech-Language Pathologist on Site and/or Supervisor of Special Education DESCRIPTION Provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy per each student’s IEP. These services include articulation therapy, receptive/expressive language therapy, speech fluency/stuttering therapy, and social language therapy in both individual and small groups. Often times, SLPA’s are providing services when SLP’s are testing other students, in PPT’s, in consults with teachers, attending parent meetings or staff meetings, analyzing data, writing IEP’s, or inputting progress updates into IEP direct. May work with all SLP’s in the district. Assist SLP's in implementing overall roles and responsibilities. May need to travel between schools during the week in order to support the SLP’s. Summer school ESY may be required typically 5 week programs Create data sheets to collect and organize data. SLPA’s collect data during direct services or collect data for SLP’s while the SLP is servicing a child. SLPA’s compile data to be analyzed by the SLP. Assist SLP’s with speech and language screening in classrooms in response to referrals from the nurse, teachers, parents, or other staff in the building. Manage all speech/language tests inventory including ordering of new tests and reordering of test protocols to replenish stock. Research new tests when applicable. Prepare, create and acquire activities and materials for all areas of speech/language services. Compile home programs for students who do not qualify for direct speech and language services. Completion of monthly Medicaid billing paperwork which requires the SLPA to look at therapy data and report dates of therapy, length of therapy, and type of therapy provided to the student. Consultations with teachers and support staff on strategies to use with identified students in their respective classrooms. Filing of confidential speech therapy records. Copying of materials for preparation of lessons, or copying of materials for parent use. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum requirement: Entry Level Requisites: A minimum of a High School degree, GED, or equivalent training or education. Possible Preservice Education and Training Models: Include, but are not limited to the following: a secondary vocational training program for support personnel in speech-language pathology; a 1 - year post secondary certificate program for support personnel in speech-language pathology; employer sponsored preservice workshops for support personnel in speech-language pathology; and relevant coursework from a post secondary program approved by the qualifying entity. Preferred Requirement: LEVEL 2 (Assistant) Entry Level Requisites: Associate degree in speech-language pathology, or post secondary equivalent course work and equivalent training and experience. Continuing Education and Training Models: Relevant inservice activities and workshops, selected post-secondary courses, supervised experience. Depending on their work setting, Level 1 and Level 2 personnel in speech-language pathology must be supervised by an SLP who is certified by the State Department of Education (SDE) and/or licensed by the Department of Public Health (DPH). The supervising SLP must have the appropriate supervising competencies. Associate degree/Bachelor's in speech-language pathology preferred but not required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
