Medical Technician - Phlebotomist

Duties
*THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*
- Performs special drawing procedures such as collecting timed specimens for peak and trough drug levels, glucose and lactose tolerance speciens.
- Instructs patients in procedures to follow prior, during and after tests.
- Observes and reports any physical or mental changes while patients are being drawn.
- Assists in emergency situations.
- Receives samples for testing into the laboratory.
- Performs therapeutic phlebotomy procedures.
- Interviews patients to secure information.
- Responds to adverse reactions that may occur during process.
- Performs preventative maintenance, quality control, correlation studies and testing on glucose meters.
- Receives and sort specimens.
- Trains other medical personnel in the collection and processing of blood specimens.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test results is received.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 6:00AM - 2:30PM
