CORRECTIONAL OFFICER LIEUTENANT - 70039714 Internal promotional opportunity available only to current FDC employees. Facility Columbia Correctional Institution Location Lake City, FL Salary will be determined in accordance with current pay procedures. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Be a citizen of the United States. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have completed basic recruit training for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida. Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months. Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months. Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years. Specific Duties and Responsibilities This Correctional Officer Lieutenant position is located at Columbia Correctional Institution. The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. The Officer assigned to this position supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to any security post on any of the established shifts, serves as the initial commander during emergency situations, and functions as facility manager during non‑administrative hours. Key duties include: Planning, organizing, and coordinating activities of all Correctional Officers and Sergeants assigned to a shift; delegating post and duty assignments; coordinating leave use; ensuring accurate completion of attendance and leave reports. Working with employees to ensure proper security coverage; conducting periodic individual counseling; recommending disciplinary action. Supervising searches for contraband; conducting daily inspections of buildings and grounds; inspecting physical plant for security concerns; maintaining sanitation standards. Observing officers’ performance; conducting performance evaluations; scheduling and coordinating training programs for subordinates. Authorizing non‑emergency application of force per DC Rule 33-3.0065(3); supervising body cavity searches as authorized. Managing inmate housing areas; enforcing rules and sanitation standards; transporting inmates using approved restraints; conducting accurate head counts; maintaining custody and control during appointments. Performing crisis intervention; restraining violent or uncooperative inmates; defending persons against attack; preventing escapes; using approved force, restraints, or other methods; providing emergency assistance. Conducting inspections and surveillance of property and personnel. Attending mandatory and other training; performing other related duties as required.
