ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

Goodwill SWMI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our nearly 300 dedicated team members help achieve our mission of improving the community by providing employment, education, training and support services tailored to individual needs across a six county territory. At Goodwill SWMI, the work we do makes a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve and, in turn, in the communities in which we live.

Goodwill SWMI manages ten retail stores (with attached, attended donation centers and one stand-alone donation center), Contract Manufacturing Operations as well as Custodial & Janitorial business units. These business operations provide stability to our organization that is not always enjoyed by nonprofit organizations solely funded by outside sources.

General Responsibilities
The Custodian works in a variety of locations for organizations contracted by Goodwill SWMI. The Custodian performs a variety of cleaning and facilities care services. The Custodian must display the core values of Goodwill Industries - Positivity, People, Collaboration and Success - in all aspects of the job.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Functions
Essential duties, responsibilities and functions include but are not limited to:

1. Maintaining restrooms by cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining supplies
2. Cleaning of all surfaces with appropriate products, including windows, tables, chairs, etc.
3. Removal of trash and garbage
4. Maintaining floors and carpets, including cleaning with appropriate products
5. Alerting supervisor to issues relating to safety, hygiene or maintenance
6. Perform all duties according to safety guidelines and procedures, including familiarity Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work independently

Ability to read and follow instructions

Ability to present a neat, clean appearance

Ability to read signs and perform simple arithmetic

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working with custodial equipment and cleaning supplies

Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required

Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, walk or kneel five hours per day; must be able to handle, reach, grasp, carry and manipulate objects safely; daily lifting and carrying of 20 lb. loads, occasional lifting of 50 lb load.

Other
Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
The job requires occasional weekend work.
