Project Controls Specialist (Electrical Estimator)

Location: Detroit, MI (Hybrid: Onsite Tue, Wed & Thu)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist / Electrical Estimator to support large-scale electrical and construction projects. This role is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project estimates, reviewing contractor bids, validating project costs, and supporting project teams throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in electrical systems, cost estimating, project controls, and construction planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ROM, budgetary, unit pricing, and detailed cost estimates.
• Review design documents, scope packages, contractor bids, and engineering estimates.
• Validate quantities, pricing, and change orders for cost and scope accuracy.
• Create estimate details aligned with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
• Perform cost analysis, risk assessments, benchmarking, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
• Support project planning, estimating controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of electrical estimating experience; OR
• Associate Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR
• High School/GED with 10+ years of Electrical Journeyman estimating experience.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and construction estimating.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with substations, overhead (OH), and underground (UG) electrical work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating large construction, power, utility, renewable energy, solar, or wind projects.
• Knowledge of labor and material cost calculations.
• Experience using On-Screen Takeoff or other estimating software.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
