Licensed Practical Nurse

Overview This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval includes an award amount (up to $200,000) and an eligibility period (one to five years), determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. English Language Proficiency: Licensed practical or vocational nurses must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by NLNAC at the time the program was completed. Exceptions include: health care education in the military service or training in the military service accepted by the licensing body for full LPN/LVN licensure. Or current GS-0620 LPN/LVN employee of the Veterans Health Administration converted to appointment under various U.S. codes or Public Laws as noted. Or licensure from a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as an LPN/LVN in the United States or a U.S. territory, or District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: Qualifications must demonstrate the level of competence for GS-03 through GS-06 as described in the original text, including ability to perform nursing duties, education of patients, emergency response, and collaboration with the care team. Duties Deliver care to patients in a respectful, non-judgmental manner according to the Patient Care Plan. Perform admission/discharge procedures as directed and collect patient data; report changes in patient status. Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record; observe for adverse effects and report to the RN. Provide patient and/or family education on common disease processes, medications, and prescribed treatments as directed. Adhere to standards of practice and safe techniques in preparation and administration of medications; document administration in BCMA. Monitor patient condition and respond to urgent or emergent situations by seeking appropriate assistance and initiating emergency interventions as directed. Support the care team through nursing duties, patient education, and coordination of services; maintain patient privacy and dignity. Participate in orientation and training of less experienced staff when applicable. Additional duties as assigned. Work Schedule and Benefits Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm.
