Structural Water Engineer Date: Mar 31, 2026 Location: Houston, TX; College Station, TX; Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; San Antonio, TX; Fort Worth, TX Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies Req Id : 112965 Opportunity Type : Staff Relocation eligible : Yes The Opportunity This position focuses on the design of structures that support water purification and treatment facilities, making water supplies more resilient and sustainable. The engineer will design a variety of structural systems, broaden their design experience, and collaborate with other disciplines to deliver critical water infrastructure projects to the community. The Team As part of BV Operations, the engineer’s skills will be applied to projects that support our three market sectors: Fuels & Natural Resources, Power Providers, and Technology, Industrial & Governments. The role involves engagement with projects worldwide, from small community improvements to large-scale mega projects, offering career development and collaboration. Key Responsibilities Execute complex structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, and other complex structural facilities. Supervise structural engineers and technicians in the preparation of structural drawings and specifications. Lead larger production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects. Perform construction phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFI’s, and review of contractor submittals. Perform project administrative tasks including design fee estimation, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, management of project changes, and implementation of Black & Veatch quality control requirements. Coordinate work with architects and other discipline engineers. Lead a team to execute complex projects with construction values up to $100 M. Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies, and assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards. Support continuous improvement efforts and provide technical guidance to others. Implement resource management strategy including managing resources for a small group. Preferred Qualifications Master of Engineering or Master of Science from an ABET accredited Structural Engineering program. Familiarity with the latest editions of the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 530. Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAADPro, or SAP 2000. Proficiency with non‑structural software packages such as Bluebeam, ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and Revit. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering work experience. Minimum of five years related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search. Active engineering registration or licensure to serve as engineer of record (EOR) for BV projects in applicable countries. Work Environment / Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
