MEDICAL ASSISTANT I (FHC) - Full-time and PRN positions

Medical Assistant

Under general supervision performs clerical and patient care work. Responsible for assisting providers by performing administrative, clinical and basic lab assignments.

Examples of the work include:

• Handling patient inquiries, scheduling appointments, answering telephone and communicating with providers.
• Receiving, registering and directing patients to proper areas for examinations.
• Preparing medical charts for new patients, recording medical history, assessing and documenting chief complaints and checking and recording vital signs, height and weight.
• Assisting providers with examination and procedures.
• Performing various clinical tests and administering immunizations and injections.
• Making appropriate entries on patient's chart.
• Obtaining specimens, performing and documenting basic lab tests, and preparing specimens for transport to appropriate lab.
• Providing appropriate patient care based on age appropriate growth and development principles.
• Assisting in patients' needs as requested.
• Cleaning and wrapping instruments for sterilization.
• Cleaning, stocking and ordering supplies for exam rooms.
• Traveling between satellite clinics.
• Adhering to standard precautions.
• Performing related work as required.

Minimum requirements include:

• High school graduation or its equivalent.
• Possession of a Medical Assistant diploma from an educational institution OR a certification/registration as a Medical Assistant.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.

Physical requirements and working conditions include:

• Moves and/or lifts more than 100 lbs when positioning patients or when assisting them on and off the examination table.

Special requirements include:

• Must wear protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.
• Must obtain CPR certification by the end of the probationary period and maintain certification throughout employment with FHC.
• Must be able to provide own transportation.
• Must work varied work schedule.
• Must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunization, or have signed a declination form within 10 days of initial assignment.
