Description:
The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse.
This role involves providing safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research.
The nurse will deliver patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
The nursing process will be applied based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational nursing standards.
Patient care needs will be assessed and evaluated while applying critical thinking skills in patient care management.
Relevant assessment and intervention skills will be integrated into the delivery of nursing care.
Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
All aspects of patient care will be prioritized, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning for post-hospital care.
Education will be provided to patients and caregivers, anticipating needs and readiness to learn about their plan of care.
Effective and professional communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team is required.
Assignments will be managed within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing.
Clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served will be demonstrated.
Formal and informal peer and institutional review processes will be engaged in.
Contributions to quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities are expected.
Documentation of nursing practice will support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Patient throughput will be facilitated on a shift basis.
Participation in shared decision making through specialty practice councils and unit initiatives is encouraged.


The role requires the incorporation of ethical principles into decision-making for patients and families.
Advancement of clinical competence in nursing practice is necessary to progress from novice to expert.
A professional image and respectful communication style must be projected to colleagues.
A spirit of scholarship and inquiry, along with life-long learning, is essential.
