PLC Tech

Job Summary The PLC Technician is responsible for designing, programming, repairing, and maintaining programmable logic controller (PLC) systems used within Refresco facilities. The PLC Tech inspects equipment for proper functioning, performs preventative maintenance per manufacturer specifications, supports repairs and installations for advanced production equipment, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes required repairs or adjustments. Sign‑On Bonus $2500 Sign‑On Bonus (3rd Party Recruited Candidates Not Eligible) Shift Nights (6pm - 3am) Essential Job Functions Adhere to all health and safety policies and Good Manufacturing Practices, and wear required PPE while working. Maintain food quality and safety as per food quality standards and/or Safe Quality Food requirements. Lead and participate in troubleshooting activities during equipment failures, collaborating with the production team to analyze, resolve, and prevent issues through investigation, testing, and follow‑up. Maintain, test, and upgrade all production equipment. Install and test new food manufacturing, packaging, and processing equipment, and interface with machine tools, special equipment or test modules. Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC and automation issues, including faulty components and wiring. Calibrate and test equipment to ensure accurate performance and compliance with specifications. Assist with PLC system upgrades to optimize production efficiency and safety. Modify existing programs for system optimization, new process requirements, or enhanced safety protocols. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, programming changes, and upgrades. Train other team members on basic PLC functions and troubleshooting as needed. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs in addition to planned mechanical maintenance duties. Participate in a continuous improvement culture while following safe workplace practices. Develop positive and respectful interactions with managers, supervisors, maintenance technicians, and machine operators. Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance system reliability and reduce costs. Required Skills Experience with RS Logix 5000, RS Logix 500, or RS Logix 5 for machine troubleshooting. Ability to connect online with Control Logix, Compact Logix, SLC500, or PLC5 using Ethernet I/P, DH+, or RS232, and download PLC programs if necessary. Read and understand electrical schematics. Use a multimeter and work in control panels with up to 480VAC. Understand symbols on P&ID’s and tag references on line layout drawings. Replace and configure AB Powerflex 40, 400, and 525 VFDs, and Yaskawa V1000 and P1000 VFDs. Replace Panelview and Panelview Plus devices and download applications using Panelbuilder 32 or RS View Studio Machine Edition. Have aptitude for further development of technical skills. Ability to influence, persuade and lead at all levels of the business. Education and Experience Three (3) plus years’ experience in industrial manufacturing maintenance. Preference given to candidates with a Rockwell Maintainer or equivalent certificate, to be obtained within the first 24 months if not already held. Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs required. Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair skills required. Candidates required to take a Maintenance Skills Assessment to be considered.
