American Backflow & Fire Prevention is seeking an experienced Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician to perform inspections, service, repairs, troubleshooting, and limited installation work on commercial kitchen fire suppression systems throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
This position is primarily focused on inspection, service, repair, and system maintenance rather than new construction. We are looking for an experienced technician who can work independently, troubleshoot problems effectively, communicate professionally with customers, and provide thorough, accurate documentation.
Position Overview
Approximate workload:
- 70–80% inspections, service, repairs, and troubleshooting
- 20–30% tenant improvements, system modifications, and installation work
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections and testing of commercial kitchen fire suppression systems
- Diagnose and repair system deficiencies
- Troubleshoot system issues and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Perform system modifications, upgrades, tenant improvements, and limited installation work
- Identify and clearly document deficiencies and required repairs
- Complete inspection reports, service reports, and other job documentation accurately and thoroughly
- Communicate findings, repair needs, and recommendations professionally with customers
- Maintain consistent communication with office staff regarding job status, parts needs, scheduling changes, and project updates
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, equipment, and assigned inventory
- Follow company procedures, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and safety practices
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of commercial kitchen fire suppression experience
- Hands-on experience performing inspections, service, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Working knowledge of NFPA 17A, NFPA 96 , and related fire protection requirements
- Experience with systems such as Ansul, Pyro-Chem, Kidde, Amerex, Range Guard , or similar manufacturers
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to accurately identify and document deficiencies and repair requirements
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional communication and customer service skills
Highly Desired
Additional fire protection experience or certifications are a plus, including:
- Fire sprinkler inspection and service experience
- Fire extinguisher inspection and service experience
- Backflow certification
- NICET certification
- Special hazard suppression system experience
