HSM is a 50-year-old, leading manufacturer of shredders and compactor presses for recycling material. The German-based company distributes its products in more than 100 countries throughout the world.

The In-House Service Technician is primarily responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and maintaining HSM shredders, while also providing technical support to customers, dealers, and field service technicians. The position is expected to be approximately 50% hands-on technical work and 50% administrative and technical-support work, with the actual balance varying based on current workload and business needs.

Administrative responsibilities include responding to technical inquiries, documenting service activities, preparing reports and records, coordinating repairs, and supporting parts and inventory activities. When capacity permits, the technician will receive cross-training on HSM compactor presses and other equipment to expand product knowledge and technical capabilities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HSM shredders and related equipment.
• Provide technical support to customers, dealers, and field technicians by phone and email.
• Diagnose equipment issues and recommend appropriate parts, repairs or solutions.
• Inspect, repair, test, and prepare returned machines for service or resale.
• Install and service oiler systems and other machine accessories.
• Inspect new parts, components, and test models as required.
• Document troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and service activities in SAP.
• Assist with machine preparation, setup, and final inspection before shipment.
• Perform outside service calls as needed (less than 25%).
• Assist with complex field-service issues when required (less than 25%).
• Maintain organized, safe work areas and properly care for tools and equipment.
• Participate in weekly parts cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
• Cross-train on compactor presses and other HSM equipment as workload permits.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Hands-on mechanical experience with copiers, printers, shredders, small appliances, small engines, or similar.
• Exposure to automotive, electrical, HVAC, or similar fields.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and drawings.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Comfortable providing technical support by phone and email.
• Comfortable working with computers and able to learn and use software systems effectively.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
• Ability to document work accurately and maintain organized service records.
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment.
• Ability and willingness to travel for occasional, local service calls (less than 25%)
• Ability to safely lift, move, and work around machinery as required.
