Bakersfield, California
Contract Dates: July 6, 2026 – November 8, 2026
Shift: 10-Hour Days (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

Duration: 18 Weeks

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced RN First Assist. You will play a vital role throughout the perioperative process, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires advanced surgical expertise, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to excellence in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Function as First Assistant during surgical procedures

• Assist with surgical incision, excision, exposure, and tissue repair

• Handle and dissect tissues in collaboration with surgeons

• Clamp vessels, control bleeding, place drains, and assist with wound closure

• Perform circulating and scrub duties as needed

• Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile field integrity

• Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and transfers

• Conduct accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts

• Document patient care and surgical interventions appropriately

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical outcomes

• Mentor and support perioperative staff members

Schedule & Call RequirementsRegular Schedule

• 10-hour day shifts

• 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Call Expectations

• Minimum one weekday call shift per week extending until 11:00 PM

• Minimum one continuous weekend call assignment (Friday through Monday 6:30 AM) every six-week scheduling period

Floating

• May float to other surgical locations as needed:

Required Qualifications Education

• Completion of an RNFA Program meeting AORN standards

Licensure & Certifications

• Active California RN License

• CNOR Certification ( Required )

• BLS Certification

• ACLS Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• CRNFA Certification

• PALS or PEARS Certification

• AORN Membership

• Minimum two years of perioperative nursing experience
