This position assists in developing student-athletes academically, physically, socially, and emotionally through a positive and competitive athletic experience aligned with school values and activities philosophy. Primary Responsibilities Program Support Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the wrestling program. Support the development of practice plans, skill instruction, and competitive strategies. Help promote a program culture focused on sportsmanship, accountability, teamwork, and personal growth. Student-Athlete Development Teach wrestling fundamentals, techniques, conditioning, and match preparation. Encourage academic success and monitor student eligibility in collaboration with school administration. Foster leadership, discipline, and respect among team members. Supervision & Safety Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities. Ensure safe training environments and enforce proper use of equipment. Assist with injury prevention and follow district concussion and athletic training protocols. Competition & Event Responsibilities Assist with meet preparation, lineup planning, and match‑day coaching duties. Support the organization of tournaments, dual meets, and team events. Help manage equipment, uniforms, and wrestling room organization. Communication & Professional Expectations Maintain positive communication with athletes, families, staff, and community members. Collaborate effectively with coaching staff and school personnel. Represent the school district with professionalism and integrity at all times. Other Duties Assist in off‑season program development when applicable. Complete required coaching certifications and professional learning. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Activities Director. Qualifications Required Valid coaching authorization or Iowa Coaching License (or ability to obtain). Knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and athlete development. Ability to work effectively with high school students. Commitment to maintaining a positive, inclusive team environment. Preferred Prior coaching or competitive wrestling experience. CPR/First Aid certification. Experience working in a school‑based athletic program. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and supervise conditioning activities. Ability to stand for extended periods and travel with the team as needed. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours required during the season. Terms of Employment Seasonal position based on the district athletic calendar.
