Inpatient Pediatric Psychiatrist

Position Summary The Division of Psychiatry at Phoenix Children’s is seeking a full‑time inpatient pediatric psychiatrist to join the growing Behavioral Health Service Line. The role follows a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule and focuses on delivering high‑quality psychiatric care to children and adolescents. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of admitted children and adolescents. Collaborate with medical, therapy, and nursing teams to review patient histories and conduct diagnostic assessments. Develop individualized treatment plans, incorporating medication management, psychotherapy, and family involvement. Address co‑occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Provide crisis intervention for patients experiencing acute episodes. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and adjust treatment as needed. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with mental health therapists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic care. Participate in case reviews and team meetings to ensure cohesive treatment planning. Communicate with families to educate them on the child’s diagnosis and treatment plan. Offer guidance on how families can support recovery and well‑being. Training and Education Provide mentorship or supervision to fellows, residents, and medical students. Participate in continuing education to stay current on pediatric psychiatry advancements. Education & Licensure Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited medical school. Completion of a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or eligibility to become certified). Valid state medical license to practice psychiatry. Position Duties Provide patient care services for which the physician is clinically privileged, including but not limited to: Direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Subspecialty consultations and follow‑up. Diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures. Urgent/emergent care as necessary. Strive to achieve the best patient and family‑centered care. Support the hospital’s patient satisfaction goals and the division’s specific targets. Adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards. Practice contemporary evidence‑based medicine or the latest experiences‑based medicine. Divisional Responsibilities Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (individual, division, hospital). Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to: Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for inpatient and outpatient services when applicable. Conduct teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees. Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division. Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division. Support the research endeavors of the division, including the initiatives by other members. Support programmatic growth of the division. Support satellite efforts of the division when appropriate. Professionalism Treat colleagues, Phoenix Children’s employees, and customers with courtesy, dignity, and respect. Promote a safe, cooperative, and professional health care environment. Support Phoenix Children’s mission, vision, and values, including family‑centered care, excellence in clinical care, leadership, collaboration, and accountability. Other Activities Support the Division Chief as liaison to the professional community and general public as requested. Conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of Phoenix Children’s, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs/initiatives. Represent Phoenix Children’s in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner. Required physical and mental skills include communication by telephone, computer, or other devices; ability to perform after‑hours or night call responsibilities; regular scheduled work hours.
