Introduction The WisDOT Division of Transportation Systems Development (DTSD), Southwest Region (SWR), is looking to fill multiple Real Estate Specialist (Entry or Senior level) permanent and project-permanent vacancies. These full‑time positions will be headquartered in Madison or La Crosse. The positions offer a hybridized work schedule, requiring employees to work from a DTSD Southwest Region office building at least two days per week and telework from within the State of Wisconsin as needed. Position Summary In the Technical Service Section (TSS) of the Southwest Region (SWR), this professional Real Estate Specialist performs a wide variety of real‑estate related tasks under limited supervision of the Real Estate Supervisor and/or a higher‑level Real Estate Specialist. The position is primarily responsible for carrying out appraisal and negotiation activities on assignments with a low to moderate level of complexity. The role also includes project management, relocation assistance, and property management responsibilities. The ability to obtain a Notary Public Commission from the State of Wisconsin within six months of employment is required. Salary Information Entry-level position: Schedule-range (07-04) with an annual salary of $58,240–$64,480, plus excellent benefits. Senior-level position: Schedule-range (07-03) with an annual salary of $63,440–$72,800, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Job Details These project/permanent positions are authorized through May 2029. Project/permanent employees are eligible for all benefits and civil service status. After successful completion of the 12-month probationary period, employees attain permanent status. All applicants must prove valid U.S. work-authorization status; the agency does not sponsor visas and is not enrolled in E-Verify. A comprehensive criminal background check, which may include FBI fingerprinting, will be conducted prior to appointment. Qualifications Entry-level applicants should have experience and/or training in all the following: Working in customer service, including using problem-solving skills to resolve customer issues. Handling multiple projects and/or tasks in a work environment. Record keeping (e.g., establishing and following filing procedures, tracking/logging data). Working with computer programs such as databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software. Well-qualified entry-level applicants will also have: Experience working in real estate (e.g., property management, appraisal, real‑estate sales, title work research, real‑estate education, eminent domain real estate, survey, utility real estate, understanding legal descriptions and plat maps).
