Position: Strong IBM AS/400 with a strong background in DevOps and Cloud practices (Infrastructure)

Location: Remote

Duration: 6 to 12 Months

They are seeking a Senior-Level Consultant for a high-impact role that involves direct interaction with C-level executives. This position requires:

• Exceptional communication skills
• Deep technical expertise, particularly in IBM technologies
• Prior experience working with IBM or IBM partner organizations such as Accenture
• Familiarity with IBM mainframe products (e.g., IBM Z), COBOL, AS/400, and enterprise system integration

The role involves integrating IBM products into a complex legal domain platform that must accommodate variations in personal law across all U.S. states. The project will require:

• Strong understanding of system architecture, design, documentation, and overall solution strategy
• Collaboration closely with executive leadership, including direct reporting to the CTO
• Leading architectural planning, solution design, and system integration
• Providing strategic input and forming a technical team to support the project roadmap

While hands-on experience is a plus, the primary focus is on high-level strategic and architectural leadership.

Summary and context:

• This role isn't about generic "transformation" or environment management.
• Proven, hands-on experience shifting from waterfall to iterative delivery.
• Designing and governing pre-production environments to enable frequent, incremental releases.
• IBM i (AS/400) environment has powered critical business operations for years but is ripe for evolution.
• Opportunities for incremental refactoring, modular design, and deeper integration with DevOps and cloud practices.
• Changes should preserve platform stability while boosting developer velocity, improving performance, and fostering collaboration.

Key responsibilities:

• Assess IBM i environments: Evaluate existing Power infrastructure, tools, and processes to identify bottlenecks in software delivery.
• Develop optimization strategy: Create a roadmap for modernizing IBM i environments by integrating automation, cloud-based solutions, and DevOps best practices.
• Leverage marketplace innovations: Research and implement new technologies, tools, and services that enhance developer productivity and reduce cycle times.
• Performance & cost optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs while improving system performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Stakeholder collaboration: Work closely with software engineering, operations, and infrastructure teams to align environment strategies with business goals.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge and demonstrated experience with IBM i (AS/400) systems, including LPARs, IFS, DB2/SQL, MQ, partitioning, and core middleware
• Ability to analyze and optimize performance using IBM Performance tools (Job Watcher, SQL Performance tools, ACS ...)
• Experience implementing DevOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, MDCMS version control, and infrastructure as code in midrange environments
• Proven success driving major IT transformation initiatives, with a focus on stakeholder buy-in and organizational change
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with emerging trends in midrange computing, cloud integration, and developer productivity tools
