About the Role: The Senior Underwriter plays a critical role in evaluating and assessing risks associated with insurance applications to ensure profitable and sustainable business growth. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in the insurance industry. Minimum of 5 years or workers compensation auditor experience. Strong knowledge of insurance products, underwriting principles, and regulatory environment in the United States. Proficiency in risk assessment and financial analysis. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Preferred Qualifications: Professional underwriting certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or AU (Associate in Underwriting). Experience with specialized insurance lines such as commercial, property, casualty, or specialty risks. Familiarity with underwriting software and data analytics tools. Demonstrated leadership experience in managing underwriting teams or projects. Advanced degree in a relevant discipline or business administration. Responsibilities: Evaluate and analyze insurance applications, financial statements, and risk factors to determine policy eligibility and terms. Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and strategies to optimize risk selection and pricing. Collaborate with sales teams, brokers, and clients to clarify coverage needs and negotiate terms. Review and approve complex or high-value insurance policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting approaches based on emerging trends and loss experience. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters to enhance team capabilities and knowledge. Prepare detailed reports and documentation to support underwriting decisions and audit requirements. Skills: The Senior Underwriter utilizes analytical skills daily to assess risk factors and financial data, ensuring accurate and profitable underwriting decisions. Strong communication skills are essential for negotiating terms with clients and collaborating with internal teams to align underwriting strategies with business goals.
