Job Overview Pipeline / Terminal Operator I – Field‑based role operating and maintaining pipeline facilities, terminals, tanks, pipeline pumping stations, LACTs and gathering facilities. Responsibilities include product movement, facility maintenance, safeguarding operations, and ensuring accurate documentation and safety compliance. Job type: Regular. Responsibilities Perform maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of station, pipeline, and terminal facilities, including painting, weed control, housekeeping for tanks, valves, engines, motors, mixers, piping, control panels, fencing, office, shop, and storage buildings. Monitor and maintain station activity reporting and related documentation, including readings, over/short documentation, and oil movement orders. Complete pipeline and facility checks, report abnormal conditions, and troubleshoot as necessary. Safely operate all facility rotating equipment and valves, LACT and metering systems, and hydrocarbon drain systems, reporting abnormal conditions and troubleshooting as necessary. Operate electrical heart‑tracking systems, flare systems, instrument air systems, truck loading/unloading systems, and related equipment. Inspect and maintain pipeline security and monitor rights of way for activity such as digging or plowing on or near the ROW. Perform damage prevention activities, report unauthorized activity, and verify status of work for expired agreements. Inspect perimeter fencing, locks, and other security devices. Inspect and gauge tanks, inspect pumps for proper operation, and perform tank inspections (checks H2S monitors, roof drains, oil levels in mixers, compressors, pumps, boosters, motors, valves and piping). Conduct product movements, including receipts and deliveries from pipelines, rail cars, vessels, tank trucks, and tank‑to‑tank transfers. Conduct measurement activities: enter estimated fuel, flare and vent volumes into an FFV log, enter reference temperature and density into electronic flow devices, perform BSW tests, review daily and monthly balances, and verify tickets, tank inventories, and metered volumes. Conduct pigging activities: prepare pipeline for pigging, send pipeline pig, receive pipeline pig, and put pipeline back into service. Maintain communications with Pipeline Control Center, perform start‑up and shutdown of pipelines. Detect and respond to leaks, ensure timely notifications, proper documentation, and assist in leak repairs. Manage and maintain balancing systems, conduct daily and monthly balancing. Support product quality management by conducting field tests, maintaining lab equipment, maintaining sample records, and performing product testing and analysis. Perform testing for quality and quantity, including sulfur content, basic sediment and water, meter proving, and witness meter proving. Document meter readings and complete daily inventory reports. Enter custody transfer tickets into the accounting system. Run weekly/monthly reports as needed. Maintain monthly fire extinguisher, scraper, filter, and tank inspection logs. Conduct effective shift turnovers. Respond to abnormal and emergency events. Demonstrate safe work practices following Plains’ safety policies and procedures. Inform senior personnel of hazards and near misses. Assist with other pipeline/terminal related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Basic math and ability to read/write English. Ability to read and interpret pipeline maps, technical drawings, and schematics. Team‑based work environment communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with compressors, pumps, mixers, hydrometers, centrifuges, sulfur machines, gauge lines, temperature and H2S monitors, line locators, SCBA, fire extinguishers, and scrapers. Basic knowledge of product measurement: gauging, metering, meter proving (including as witness), and product sampling procedures. Basic computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Office). Knowledge of petroleum product characteristics (gravity, viscosity, flash, BS&W) and ability to perform qualitative analysis. Familiarity with facility work authorization permits, Emergency Response Plans, SPCC plans, operations manuals, PHMSA and OSHA regulations. Outstanding safety record and ability to complete Haz‑Mat, DOT operator, and mandatory safety training. Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme heat or cold and handle moderate to heavy demands. Eligibility Valid U.S. driver’s license with clean abstract. Clear criminal history background checks and satisfactory references. Compliance with company drug and alcohol policy including pre‑employment screening. Requirement to obtain or maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
