Head Cheerleading Coach (High School)

Position: Head Cheerleading Coach Location: Pocahontas County High School Reports To: Building Principal and/or Athletic Director/Head Coach Salary: Based on Pocahontas County Schools Extra‑Curricular Pay Index Qualifications: A coach must be certified as a teacher (or substitute) in the State of WV or complete the National Federal Interscholastic Coaches Education Program as endorsed by the WVSSAC and the State Board of Education, and receive a coaching authorization issued by the WV Department of Education. Must also have or be willing to get current CPR/AED certification. Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Job Summary: A High School Coach is responsible for leading and managing student athletes in a high school setting. They are responsible for creating and implementing effective training and conditioning programs to help students safely participate in the athletic program. High school coaches play a vital role in the physical, emotional and mental development of student athletes by teaching them valuable life skills, such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. They also act as mentors and provide guidance and support to student athletes during and outside of the athletic season/program. Duties & Responsibilities: Abide by all athletic rules and regulations as set forth through state, county and WVSSAC guidelines, laws, and policies Work under the direction and guidance of the head coach (if an assistant coach) and athletic director Organize and carry out an athletic program that will promote team and school pride Accept the responsibility for the welfare of the students under his/her supervision Attempt to integrate the athletic program with the total school program Promote positive public relations in regard to the school's athletic program Accept responsibility for the behavior and welfare of his/her team before and after practice or a contest Work in conjunction and coordination with athletic programs at other school levels Accept responsibility for the retention and care of equipment Provide leadership and support in his/her area of responsibility Maintain professional work habits Accept the responsibility of and help maintain professional behavior of all assistant coaches Maintain and upgrade his/her professional skills Perform all other duties as assigned by principal or athletic director/head coach. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members. Work Environment: The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
