IT Support Technician

Type: Contract (Potential for Extension) Location: Columbia, SC 29208 Work Setting: Fully Onsite Candidate Location: Candidate must currently reside in South Carolina. No relocation is available.

Position Overview: We are seeking an IT Support Technician to provide frontline technical support in a fast-paced higher education environment. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone with foundational IT knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and a customer-service mindset. The technician will support end users across desktops, laptops, software, peripherals, classroom technology, audiovisual equipment, conferencing systems, and mobile devices. The position will also assist with workstation deployments, onboarding/offboarding, endpoint support, equipment tracking, and general IT operations. This is a strong fit for candidates with hands-on experience through help desk, internships, technical training, certifications, school labs, or entry-level IT support positions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide frontline technical support to end users in person, remotely, and through service-request/ticketing processes.
• Troubleshoot common issues involving: Windows and macOS computers Software and applications User accounts and authentication Printers and peripherals Network and connectivity issues Monitors, docking stations, keyboards, mice, and related equipment Mobile devices
• Assist with workstation setup, equipment replacements, deployments, office moves, and onboarding/offboarding activities.
• Support classroom, conference-room, and audiovisual technologies.
• Assist users with displays, projectors, microphones, cameras, speakers, and conferencing systems.
• Support livestreams, hybrid events, meetings, and other technology-enabled activities.
• Assist with endpoint setup, software installation, device enrollment, updates, and standardized workstation configurations.
• Support technology inventory and equipment tracking.
• Perform routine tasks in systems such as Microsoft Intune, Jamf, and Active Directory under appropriate supervision and access.
• Document work performed and escalate more complex issues to senior IT staff.
• Assist with technology refreshes, deployment projects, and other operational IT needs.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Foundational knowledge or hands-on experience supporting computers, technology, or end users.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and peripherals.
• Ability to troubleshoot common computer and technology issues.
• Familiarity with Windows environments.
• Strong customer-service and communication skills.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, established procedures, and escalation processes.
• Ability to work fully onsite in Columbia, SC.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or technical certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Familiarity with one or more of the following: Windows 10/11 macOS Microsoft 365 Active Directory Microsoft Intune Jamf Basic networking concepts Mobile device support Classroom or AV technology Microsoft Teams Zoom or similar conferencing platforms

Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is dependable, customer-focused, and eager to grow within IT. You are comfortable working directly with users, troubleshooting everyday technology issues, learning new systems, and escalating problems appropriately when they require more advanced support.

Additional Information: Fully onsite in Columbia, SC 29208. Candidate must be a current South Carolina resident. No relocation is available. Some travel between nearby buildings may be required. Occasional evening or weekend support may be needed for events, ceremonies, or other technology-related activities.
