ICU Trauma RN - Full Time

Position Overview The ICU RN 1 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides direct nursing care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced and challenging environment. The nurse works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient-centered care for each patient, typically 1–2 at a time, in a 14-bed general medical/surgical ICU with a focus on neuro and trauma care. Key Accountabilities Provide direct care to critically ill patients, including ventilatory support, hemodynamic monitoring, and life support. Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and manage complex treatment protocols. Perform assessments of patients’ vital signs, condition, and symptoms; document findings and changes in electronic health records. Assist with procedures such as central line insertions, intubation, and tracheostomy care. Respond to critical situations and codes (e.g., CodeBlue) by performing life‑saving interventions like CPR, defibrillation, and advanced airway management. Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans. Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and progress. Participate in daily rounds and contribute to interdisciplinary care planning. Precept and support new nurses and nursing students as required. Maintain infection control standards and adhere to hospital protocols. Qualifications Current Wisconsin RN or compact nursing licensure. At least 1 year of hospital RN experience preferred. Completion of American Heart Association BLS and ACLS within 6 months of hire. BSN required for any non‑BSN nurse with less than one (1) year of RN experience; must obtain BSN within five (5) years of hire. Physical Demands Ability to stand, stoop, walk, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, sharp objects, and other hazards. Frequent exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and electrical shock. High noise level and long periods of standing or walking. Work Environment Fast‑paced ICU setting with frequent critical events. Occasional contact with aggressive or combative patients. Variable shift schedule; 12‑hour rotating shifts (5:30a.m. – 6p.m. / 5:30p.m. – 6a.m.) with every third weekend and holiday rotation required.
