Full-Time Staff Pharmacist – Canastota, NY (with shifts in Hamilton)

About the Role

Dougherty Pharmacy is a family of independent community pharmacies serving small towns across Central New York. We're hiring a full-time staff pharmacist to work primarily at our Canastota store alongside our pharmacist-in-charge, with some regularly scheduled shifts at our Hamilton location.

This is a role for someone who wants to actually know their patients. Our pharmacists work the counter, answer the phone, run immunization clinics, and call prescribers themselves. We have goals and take them seriously, but we don't nag about them the way the chains do. When you hit your targets and run an efficient store, you're rewarded with real quarterly bonuses. We also staff properly: we'd rather be a little overstaffed than stretch you thin, so you'll have solid technician support on every shift. No scripted upsells, no 14-hour shifts alone behind glass.

Pay

• $60–$65 per hour base pay
• Significant quarterly bonuses on top of base, tied to clear store goals — metrics we actually pay out on, not just track
• Health benefits: group health insurance coming soon, or $250/week paid in lieu of health insurance (see Benefits below)

Schedule

• Full-time, 30–40 hours per week — we'll build the schedule around what works for you
• Primarily Canastota, with Hamilton shifts on a set rotation
• No Sundays and no major holidays — our stores are closed, so you're home
• Every other Saturday at Canastota — a short shift, since the store closes at 1:00 PM

What You'll Do

• Verify and dispense prescriptions accurately and efficiently
• Counsel patients on new and existing medications, interactions, and adherence
• Administer immunizations (flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia, RSV, and more)
• Work with prescribers on clarifications, therapeutic substitutions, and prior authorizations
• Oversee pharmacy technicians and support their day-to-day workflow
• Manage inventory, controlled-substance compliance, and NYS/DEA recordkeeping
• Support our clinical services — medication synchronization, adherence packaging, point-of-care testing, and new programs as they grow
• Pitch in wherever the store needs it — this is a small pharmacy and everyone helps

What We're Looking For

• PharmD or BS Pharm from an accredited program
• Active New York State pharmacist license in good standing (or eligible for licensure by your start date)
• NYS immunization certification (or obtained before your start date) and willingness to vaccinate
• Retail or community pharmacy experience preferred — new graduates with strong rotations are encouraged to apply
• Reliable transportation for shifts in both Canastota and Hamilton
• A patient-first attitude, good judgment, and the ability to stay calm and organized on busy days

• Health insurance: we're launching a group health plan soon. Until it starts — and for anyone who chooses not to enroll (for example, if you're covered through a spouse) — we pay about $250/week (roughly $13,000/year) in lieu of health insurance, added to every paycheck as taxable pay.
