Registered Nurse (RN) ICU

Job Description

This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments.

Essential functions include assessing the patient's condition and nursing care needs, setting goals and prescribing appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients, developing individual nursing care plans, implementing care plans and making revisions as needed, evaluating patient care outcomes, collaborating with physicians and other hospital employees, administering medications, treatments and therapies, communicating with patients and overseeing provision of care, providing patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition, and accurately documenting nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining facility equipment, supplies and work areas, assisting in the orientation of new employees, coordinating and supervising activities of employees and department operations, and participating in performance/process improvement activities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include an associate's degree in nursing required, a bachelor's degree in nursing preferred, 1 year or less of experience, BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation, ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position, current RN license in state of practice, ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs, critical thinking, and the ability to work well under pressure while keeping calm and maintaining customer focus.

Physical and mental demands include standing, walking, sitting for extended periods of time, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching or crawling, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds, and repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer. Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment and travel requirements include working in well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled office environment with routine office equipment; some equipment has moving mechanical parts. In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and/or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment. Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or hospital environment. Minimum overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
