Unit Director - Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC)

Description The UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is seeking an experienced Nurse Director to lead operations for the UCLA Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), a premier research unit supporting more than 400 active clinical trials. This leadership role oversees research nursing operations, collaborates with investigators and clinical teams across UCLA Health, and ensures exceptional patient care and operational excellence. The Director manages the CTRC's 23-hour ambulatory research unit, including 11 patient beds, four infusion chairs, and a team of more than 16 research nursing and support staff. In addition, the Director oversees the innovative CTRC Without Walls (CTRC WoW) program, managing staffing, service agreements, and financial operations to expand research support across the institution. Annual Range: $148,700.00-$352,100.00 Qualifications Required BSN and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Active California Registered Nursing License. BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association - required MSN, MHA, MBA or equivalent master's level degree or a doctoral degree indicating post-graduate work Minimum 5 years of eexperience as a registered nurse with clinical experience, preferably at the bedside performing direct patient care. Minimum 2 years of experience managing a clinical research unit or equivalent level ambulatory care area, with a demonstrated progression of responsibility. Knowledge of Clinical Research methodology, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory requirements, and budgeting processes for clinical research studies. Excellent interpersonal skills for effective engagement with clinicians, research participants, administrators, auxiliary personnel, regulators, and sponsors. Strong quantitative and analytical skills to collect and interpret data and prepare reports; meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work independently, design and manage projects with excellent follow-through. Excellent organizational and program management skills to effectively oversee a large portfolio of diverse clinical studies. Expertise in the nursing process; professional judgment and decision making; planning and providing nursing care in a research setting; and knowledge of the biomedical research process. Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout their participation in clinical trials, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the research study process, and consistent with unit guidelines and hospital policies, procedures and protocols. Ability to synthesize conditions throughout the Health System and the research environment to plan for opportunities for growth or to guard against potential pitfalls. Encourages growth and professional development among staff by encouraging and creating new opportunities. Able to advocate effectively for the needs of the CTRC through skilled written and verbal communication.
