Maintenance Mechanic

This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding industrial motors and machinery in a hands-on, onsite environment. You will assemble, dismantle, install, and service mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring reliable operation of industrial systems. The position involves extensive troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical diagnostics, and the use of industrial tools and equipment to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, dismantle, install, remove, and maintain industrial machinery in accordance with layout plans, blueprints, and manufacturers' specifications.
• Break down motors and perform complete rebuilds, including mechanical and electrical components.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on motors, gear boxes, pumps, and related equipment.
• Perform repairs on industrial machinery, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, to restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
• Fabricate and install machine guarding and structural components to improve safety and equipment integrity.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance tasks.
• Interpret blueprints and technical documentation to plan and execute maintenance and repair work.
• Recognize early signs of equipment failure and take corrective action to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Demonstrate and follow safe work practices while operating and maintaining industrial equipment.
• Collaborate with other technicians and facility personnel to support efficient maintenance operations and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• At least 4 years of experience in industrial maintenance or mechanic work.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working on industrial machinery and motors.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents related to industrial equipment.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues on industrial motors and machinery.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.
• Knowledge of bearings, gear boxes, motors, and pumps, including how to inspect, service, and replace components.
• Ability to recognize and troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Competent use of hand tools and other maintenance tools required for industrial repair work.
• Valid driver's license.
• Comfort working in a physically demanding industrial environment that may be hot, dirty, and not temperature controlled.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a maintenance technician or mechanic in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in electrical repair work on motors and related equipment.
• Familiarity with automotive-style mechanical work that translates to industrial maintenance.
• Ability to demonstrate safe use of industrial equipment and tools to others.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing quality repairs.
• Capability to work extended shifts and adapt to varying workloads as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based onsite at an electrical repair facility that services customers across the Midwest, with daily work performed at an industrial site in Cedar Rapids. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with optional Saturday and Sunday work available but not encouraged to help prevent burnout. The primary work location is a hot, dirty, and nontemperature-controlled environment, so candidates must be comfortable working in physically demanding and sometimes harsh conditions. The dress code includes metatarsal boots (one pair provided annually), jeans, and a long-sleeve shirt. Additional safety gear such as safety glasses and hearing protection is provided, reinforcing a strong focus on safe work practices in an industrial setting.

The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $68640.00/yr. 401k, benefits, paid holidays.
