About Us & The Position We are a well-established, family-owned and operated retail business in New Canaan looking for a motivated, dependable, and professional Assistant Store Manager to join our team. We have a fun, supportive work environment and are looking for someone who enjoys working with people but also understands what it takes to help run a successful retail store. This is a hands‑on leadership position for someone who takes initiative, communicates well, leads by example, and takes pride in getting things done. The Assistant Store Manager works closely with the Store Manager to help drive sales, develop and motivate the team, provide exceptional customer service, and keep day‑to‑day store operations running smoothly. Our ideal candidate can recognize what needs to be done and take action without always waiting for direction. You'll need to be comfortable balancing time with customers while still keeping an eye on the team, sales floor, inventory, merchandising, and overall needs of the business. What You'll Do Help lead, coach, and motivate the sales team while creating a positive, team-oriented work environment Provide exceptional customer service and help the team consistently do the same Assist in driving sales and achieving store goals Lead by example and set a high standard for professionalism, productivity, and customer service Take initiative, recognize what needs attention, and follow through without requiring constant direction Manage time effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and bring a strong sense of urgency and a "get-it-done" attitude Assist the Store Manager with hiring, training, coaching, and developing employees Provide clear direction, coach employees, and appropriately hold team members accountable Assist with inventory management, including receiving daily shipments, stocking merchandise, and merchandising new product Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked, and visually appealing store Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, employees, and management Balance customer‑facing responsibilities with the leadership and operational needs of the store Confidently help oversee store operations when the Store Manager is unavailable What We're Looking For Retail management, supervisory, keyholder, or other retail leadership experience strongly preferred Proven ability to drive sales and provide excellent customer service Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach and motivate others Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong judgment and the ability to recognize what needs attention and act without always waiting for direction Self‑motivated, dependable, organized, and willing to take initiative Strong time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize and follow through Strong merchandising and organizational skills Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on retail environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Weekend availability is required Compensation & Benefits Salary: $45,000–$55,000 per year, depending on experience In addition to salary, we offer: Performance bonuses and frequent employee incentives Generous employee discount Paid vacation time Supportive owners and management A fun, team-oriented work environment Opportunities for additional responsibility and growth Schedule & Availability This is a full-time management position requiring consistent availability and flexibility based on the needs of the business. Must be available to work weekends as part of a regular management schedule Ability to work a flexible schedule and provide management coverage when needed Reliable and punctual attendance is essential Our store hours are 10:00 AM–6:00 PM Monday–Saturday and 11:00 AM–5:00 PM Sunday — great hours for retail!
