Work Schedule: The standard work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Exempt professionals, are expected to maintain a flexible schedule to ensure all responsibilities and collegiate needs are met, including occasional work outside of core business hours. Salary Ranges $54,880 to $73,642 FLSA Status Exempt Position Summary The Data Architect designs, automates, and maintains the college’s enterprise data infrastructure and reporting environments. The Data Architect leads technical data projects, enforces data governance, and serves as the primary technical liaison between IT staff and functional departments to ensure data system performance, security, and integrity. This is a strategic role empowering campus stakeholders to drive self-service reporting by writing advanced SQL database queries, architecting efficient data models, and automating critical data workflows. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications. Duties and Responsibilities Design and optimize central data warehouse structures and semantic layers tailored for campus departments to generate, analyze, and automate their own operational and strategic reports. Translate complex data sets into clear, actionable business insights by designing and developing enterprise-level reports and interactive dashboards using modern BI tools (e.g., Evisions Argos, OBIEE) Architect, schedule, and automate robust ETL/ELT pipelines from the enterprise SIS (e.g., Ellucian Banner) and secondary systems into the central data repository for real-time and scheduled analytics. Write, debug, and optimize highly complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and user-defined functions across large-scale relational databases. Design, monitor, and maintain automated job streams using enterprise workload schedulers (e.g., ISE Enterprise Scheduler) to coordinate data extraction from enterprise database systems (e.g., Oracle, Ellucian Banner), manage data pipeline dependencies, and automate scheduled report generation and delivery through reporting software. In partnership with data stewards and data governance, define, implement, and maintain institutional data security frameworks, including fine-grained Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), data masking, and FERPA compliant privacy rules, to guarantee strict data integrity, confidentiality, and legal compliance. Partner directly with functional departments to analyze reporting requirements and translate functional analytics needs into sustainable technical architecture. Lead the migration of legacy reporting structures into modern data platform environments, establishing standards for API integrations and third-party data exchanges. Maintain comprehensive data models, data mapping, system integration diagrams, and governance access protocols. Serve as a technical member of the Data Governance Committee, establishing institutional data standards, access policies, and data security guidelines. Coordinate and support the implementation and maintenance of third-party products and interfaces interacting with enterprise database systems. Contributes to the college’s accreditation efforts, including the overall Middle States accreditation and any program specific accreditation standards. Complete special projects as assigned. Qualifications Required Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent (mandatory for all candidates). AND Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in data analytics, enterprise data systems, systems architecture, and/or related. OR Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in data analytics, enterprise data systems, systems architecture, and/or related at an enterprise level with 60+ earned credits of higher education in a relevant field. Certifications Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting) Work Experience Three or more years of experience in enterprise data systems, and/or technical project management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working technical knowledge of database systems and enterprise relational database technologies, such as Oracle and SQL/PLSQL. High-level SQL techniques, including window functions, recursive queries, query execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and performance tuning. Advanced proficiency in data modeling (dimensional and relational), SQL, automated pipeline orchestration, and integration with modern BI/reporting platforms. Practical experience with automated job scheduling systems and enterprise workflow orchestration tools to manage dependencies and error handling. Combines analytical thinking with advanced problem-solving skills to transform high-level business needs into precise technical data models. Demonstrated understanding of data security, user access controls, data integrity, confidentiality, and institutional data governance policies. Demonstrated experience managing technical project scopes and collaborating across multi-functional teams. Must be well organized and an advocate of providing outstanding customer service to the institution’s user community. Must possess the capability to work with minimal supervision. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to enhance automation pipelines. Professional certifications in data architecture, data governance, database administration, data warehousing, or project management. Experience in higher education, specifically with enterprise systems such as Ellucian Banner. Proven track record of architecting self-service BI ecosystems for non-technical institutional users. Strong communication skills with an emphasis on translating complex data structures into actionable concepts for administrative leaders. Experience developing Release and Change Management processes, procedures, or continuous improvement methodologies. Physical Demands Ability to effectively communicate, perceive, and exchange information with colleagues and stakeholders. Operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls using hands, arms, or adaptive equipment. Ability to safely lift, transport, or move objects up to 15 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally. Vision capabilities sufficient to view screens, read printed materials, and observe work environments (with or without assistive devices).
