Job Title: RN Emergency Department Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 3 years in a fast-paced Emergency Department License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS NIHSS TNCC Must-Have: 3 years of Emergency Department experience in a fast-paced environment Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills IV skills Basic knowledge of critical care drips and medication administration Experience with TPA administration Experience with blood administration Procedural sedation experience Code blue experience Triage experience is strongly preferred Description: This is a Level IV Trauma Center with a Level III NICU. The facility has a total of 228 beds including 35 general beds and 6 fast-track rooms. The average number of patients seen per day is 168. Patient types range from neonates to geriatrics with all Emergency Department diagnoses included. There is a heavy mental health patient population present. Common cases include invasive neuro issues, STEMI patients requiring Cath Lab transfer, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, and motor vehicle collisions. The patient ratios are 1:4 during the day and night, based on acuity. The fast-track ratio is 1:6. Support on the unit includes a unit secretary and ED Technicians available 24/7 to perform blood draws and glucose checks. Charge nurses may occasionally have lower acuity assignments based on staffing needs. Phlebotomy support is also available and may assist with blood cultures and difficult blood draws. Respiratory therapists, ED physicians, mid-level providers, and an ED educator are present 24/7. Central and bedside telemetry monitoring is in place. The charting system used is EPIC along with Alaris and Pyxis for medication management. Weekend rotations occur every other week. Holiday expectations require working 2 out of 4 major holidays. Scrub colors are flexible but should remain professional.
