Principal Software Engineer (Full Stack)

This role will be working in a new team to build out a new Platform based on the latest technology and architecture. You will be working alongside AWS and learning from the best.The Principal Software Engineer will provide technical leadership on TP ICAP’s flagship Fusion platform within a team. This role will set the standards and direction of Engineers with Engineering Excellence in mind. They will demonstrate the benefits of the latest approaches to Full-Stack development and delivery through working as a team member. They should be the authority for decisions relating to standards and engineering best practices within their discipline in their team.The Principal Engineer will be passionate about software development and keen to use their technical and mentoring skills to help their development team to be successful. They should be comfortable working in agile teams, foster transparent communication, have a commitment to quality, and a focus on getting things done. This role will primarily be hands-on with some management responsibility.Role Responsibilities:Development, Architecture, SDLC and DeliveryAct as the primary technical leader and developer on the Fusion team, demonstrating strong technical competencies and acting as a dependable and high value contributor within the team such that other team members know what they should aspire toBe an expert in modern Full-Stack Engineering using React/Typescript/JavaScript and OO design principals.Provide technical oversight of the analysis and design for assigned projectsDesign, develop, test and oversee production software solutions, including the development of highly complex systems, and modifications to existing systemsBe able to communicate the architecture and principles behind a system to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersSupport the use of preferred planning and prioritisation tooling (JIRA) to capture and track deliveries, identify issues and help with roadmap and iteration planning and prioritisationEnsure the team engages in a well-defined SDLC that supports planning, prioritisation and delivery needsSupport the team through help with defining scope and guiding estimation of work to be done by leveraging previous experienceBe custodians for target state architecture and best practice within your respective development team and across the Fusion estateIdentify opportunities to evolve systems towards target state architecture and direct refactoring and prioritisation to positively influence deliveriesCommunication and LeadershipWork alongside Team Leaders, to provide technical leadership and direction for the development teamParticipate in retrospectives and seek opportunities to drive best practiceLead the software team to deliver high quality and innovative software solutionsProvide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development, through both gated checks like code reviews and more supportive approaches such as mentoring or identifying stretch opportunities for team membersChange, Risk and Issue ManagementGuide and support team to identify and escalate risks as appropriateWork with the Team Leaders to provide time and resource estimates, identify potential areas of risk and suggest mitigating actionsShare complex technical designs or issues with non-technical stakeholders and influence their decision making where necessaryIdentify tools and methodologies to improve the effectiveness of the development processAssist and facilitate prioritisation of software defects and enhancementsManage risks and issues effectively with timely escalation to the project stakeholdersExperience/Competencies:Essential:Demonstrable industry experience as a Full Stack or Front/Backend Engineer in Typescript in a professional environment.Front-end skillsProficient in HTML5, CSS3, and TypescriptProficient in React, Redux, ReactQueryExperience with modern JavaScript frameworks - ReactKnowledge of version control systems (Git)Understanding of cross-browser compatibilityFamiliarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL and WebsocketsExperience with CSS pre-processors e.g. TailwindBack-end skillsProficiency in backend programming languages (Typescript and/or other OOP language such as c#/Java)Strong database knowledge (SQL and NoSQL)Proficiency with RESTful APIs and GraphQL APIs and WebsocketsExperience with microservices architectureKnowledge of version control systems (Git)Experience with TerraformExperience with automated testingExperience with AWS (AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, Amazon API Gateway, AWS AppSync)Worked within an Agile Cross-functional delivery team.Developing well tested software into low latency event driven production environments.Full software development lifecycle in a technical role.Pub/Sub patterns with Messaging technologies (such as SOLACE/AMQP)Worked within a technical platform team, delivering reusable services across multiple agile projects.Microservice Architecture.Containerization.Maintaining code quality with Unit, Integration and e2e testing.AWS cloud ecosystem and the AWS CLI (or industry equivalent).Linux shell or Windows PowerShell.CI and CD flows within an enterprise environment. The services are used 24/5 by several teams.
