We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.Job SummaryUnder direction of the Senior Operations Manager, PET Production and Cyclotron, the nuclear pharmacist provides a variety of services, ensuring compliance in the procurement, preparation, compounding, manufacturing, quality control testing, dispensing, distribution, and monitoring of radiopharmaceuticals. The nuclear pharmacist also must provide support for the safe and efficient production and use of radioactive drugs for research and clinical diagnostic use at MGH. The incumbent is involved in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the PET Production and Nuclear Pharmacy radiopharmaceutical facilities. In addition, the nuclear pharmacist provides consultation regarding all aspects of the use of radiopharmaceuticals and non-radioactive adjunct imaging medications, as well as health and safety issues in patient care.Duties and Responsibilities for Nuclear Pharmacists in the MGH PET Nuclear Pharmacy include but are not limited to:1. Assumes overall responsibility for quality oversight of the FDA regulated, cGMP PET manufacturing facility and PET nuclear pharmacy for the manufacturing, compounding, quality control testing, dispensing and packaging of PET radiopharmaceuticals.2. Serves in a quality assurance (QA) role to ensure compliance with all departmental procedures, FDA guidance and regulatory filings.3. Reviews and releases batches of PET radiopharmaceuticals manufactured under 21 CFR 212, cGMP PET drug manufacturing regulations.4. Ensures compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations concerning these activities.5. Maintains inventory and ensures suitability of all raw materials and components used in the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals6. Performs set up, operation, and documentation of computer controlled automated synthetic devices dedicated to the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals.7. Performs complex analytical testing on manufactured and/or compounded radiopharmaceutical including, thin layer chromatography (TLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), radionuclide identity and purity testing with high purity germanium solid state detectors, sterility and pyrogen testing.8. Works with PET radiochemistry staff to troubleshoot radiopharmaceutical production and optimize yields.9. Works with cyclotron facility staff to ensure quality and availability of PET radionuclides for manufacturing and compounding of PET radiopharmaceuticals. 10. Maintains detailed records of operation and validation of all processes taking place in the nuclear pharmacy and PET production facility.11. Ensures that all shipments of radioactive material meet all regulatory requirements. 12. Works with MGH radiation safety staff to ensure that all tasks are performed in the PET nuclear pharmacy are in compliance with regulatory and prudent radiation safety principles.Duties and Responsibilities for Nuclear Pharmacists in the MGH Clinical Nuclear Pharmacy:1. Responsible for the safe and effective preparation and dispensing of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals for Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, Thyroid Associates, and Interventional Radiology.2. Responsible for procurement, receiving, inventory control, storage, handling, preparation, compounding, quality control testing, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals and adjunct imaging medications. 3. Responsible for Medication Order Review – allergy monitoring, drug interaction monitoring, adverse reaction monitoring and reporting.4. Maintains appropriate records for regulatory compliance.5. Prepares and dispenses radiopharmaceuticals according to departmental protocols and patient specific information6. Provides drug information such as potential drug interactions and methods of radio-labeling to the nuclear medicine department.7. Prepares and dispenses medications for departmental clinical trials and completes applicable case report forms.8. Maintains quality standards to ensure compliance with Massachusetts Radiation Control Board regulations, Board of Registration in Pharmacy, United States Pharmacopeia, and The Joint Commission.9. Ensures therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals are dispensed in accordance with the departmental quality management program.10. Participates in the vendor assessment process11. Supervises nuclear medicine technologists in the preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals12. Provides training on aseptic technique, radiopharmaceutical preparation and quality control, and radiation safety techniques for various job classes (technologists, residents/fellows, and other trainees and students).13. Communicates with AU physicians, nuclear medicine technologists, and nurses regarding patient care14. Consults with team after-hours regarding the safe and effective preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and adjunct imaging medications.15. Manages drug recall and shortages in an efficient manner. 16. Responsible for the security of radioactive materials and adjunct imaging medications.General Summary:Responsible for the optimization of drug therapy by identification, resolution, and prevention of drug related problems and improving therapeutic outcomes. Provides patient care according to the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy by the appropriate state and federal agencies. May be responsible for prescribing medications under specific collaborative drug therapy management agreements (CDTM).Works independently, and within the limits of established pharmacy/ambulatory care practice site's policies and procedures, as a member of the patient care team. May supervises support personnel during an assigned shift, operating within the limits of pharmacy policy and procedures, and the regulations of the Board of Registration Pharmacy.Does this position require Patient Care? NoEssential Functions-1. Leadership - 20% a. Provide direction and guidance to pharmacist and ancillary support including technician staff in following policy and procedure, taking accountability and ownership of job responsibilities, and promoting professional behavior and attitudes. Give feedback to the pharmacy managers/practice managers/medical directors for performance appraisal of other Pharmacy employees. Participates in resolving personnel management issues, when requested by the management staff. -2. Direct and Indirect Patient Care Services - 50% a. Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings, M&M rounds, staff development, journal club review, in-services, and case studies for afternoon pharmacist meetings and continuing education activities.b. Member of departmental quality improvement committees, programs, and student/resident presentations.c. Conduct continuing education programs and conferences to keep current with developments in the profession.d. Maintain pharmaceutical care expertise through membership and participation in professional organizations, continuing education, and contributing to peer-reviewed literature. -3. Quality and Safety - 10% a. Maintain expertise in the departmental policies and procedures.b. Follow all policies, procedures, laws, and regulations set forth by the Board of Pharmacy and all other applicable regulatory agencies.c. Ensure compliance with target drug programs, formulary management, medication management initiatives, and adverse drug event monitoring programs.-4. Education, Training, and Professional Development - 10% a. Attend and participate in departmental and change of shift staff meetings, M&M rounds, staff development and continuing education activities.b. Participate in departmental quality improvement committees, programs, and student/resident presentations.-5. Use of Technology and Automation - 10% a. Utilize area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.b.
