Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Overview Goldbelt Glacier Health Services is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS/ARRT). This position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid. Responsibilities Receive patients, verify accuracy of personally identifiable information (PII), explain procedures, and provide appropriate care. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required. Operate ultrasound scanners, including linear, sector, 3D, and endovaginal probes, as well as pulse and color Doppler capabilities. Receive and interpret requests or instructions for diagnostic ultrasound scans; perform assigned quality control checks of the ultrasound scanners. Perform, independently, in accordance with established standards and protocols, a full range of diagnostic sonography examinations including obstetrical sonography, pelvic sonography, endovaginal sonography, abdominal sonography, elastography, invasive, musculoskeletal, small parts sonography, and vascular sonography. Work independently. Perform complex sonographic scans on patients of all ages and assist radiologists with invasive techniques such as biopsies, aspirations, and intraoperative localization. Identify abnormalities during exam and determine need for additional scans. Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other areas of the body should be scanned. Use detailed knowledge of diseases and anatomy to achieve effective ultrasound scanning. Advise the physician of results and provide a preliminary diagnosis. Notify physicians of exams requiring immediate attention, including critical findings. Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment on a regular basis in accordance with departmental standards. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies for ultrasound examinations. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded. Make minor adjustments on equipment, differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes, and program the examination equipment. Institute necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest. Correlate the patient’s clinical history with the requested examination and obtain results from previous pertinent diagnostic tests for correlation. Consult with staff and physicians from multiple specialties regarding the patient’s history, preliminary diagnosis, and correlation with the ultrasound examination. Recognize normal anatomic variants and changes created by medical and surgical procedures. Document arrival, departure, and completed tests as required by policy; send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to protocol. Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic arithmetic ability. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Minimum Qualifications Certificate from an academic program accredited by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Board Certification by ARDMS and current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. 24 months of full‑time experience within the last 36 months in a setting corresponding to the requirements of the task order.
