About the Position

Job Title: ER Float RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings (Every other weekend) Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC Description: This position will require floating between various emergency room locations in the area. The schedule will be made in advance so the traveler is aware of what location they'll be reporting to. Travelers are required to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with a maximum of 2 attempts. A pass/fail simulation laboratory exam will also be required on the first day of orientation. Study guides will be provided with first-day instructions. All RNs will be expected to complete simulation laboratory training for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. This is essential for maintaining sterile field competence, as these are frequently performed nursing skills. Nurses who understand sterile field protocols typically pass the simulation laboratory exams. In addition to simulation laboratory training, travelers will go through educational sessions covering lifts, restraints, and wound care. This is to familiarize them with equipment and policies that may differ between facilities. Nurses will be one of only two RNs on staff at the satellite locations. The ratio of patients to nurses is expected to be 4:1. Charting will be done using the Cerner system. Weekend work will be required every other weekend, with holidays as needed. Scrub color for this position is galaxy blue. Ventilator management capabilities are required. Lab draws will be performed by ER staff. An IV team is not available. Floats will not be required, but floor-specific orientation will be provided. The hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
