Research Scientist, Reasoning and Planning

About the Role OpenAI is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Reasoning and Planning team. You will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities by developing novel architectures and training paradigms that enhance multi-step reasoning, mathematical problem-solving, and complex planning in frontier models. Responsibilities Design, implement, and evaluate novel deep learning architectures focused on reasoning and search-based alignment. Collaborate closely with infrastructure and engineering teams to scale training pipelines efficiently across thousands of accelerators. Publish research findings in top-tier machine learning conferences and contribute to product development roadmaps. Requirements Ph.D. or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Proven track record of research publications in core ML venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR). Strong programming skills in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
