ATTENDING PHYSICIAN 12 - UROLOGIST - SURGERY

Surgery LOCATION: John H. Job Summary The Attending Physician XII (Urologist) will provide both clinical and surgical services to the patients of Cook County Health (CCH) and participate in the on‑call schedule, as specified by the Division Chief. The physician will supervise fellows, residents, medical students, mid‑level practitioners, and ancillary personnel; partake in clinical trials; conduct research; serve on administrative committees; and adhere to all federal, local, and department rules and regulations. Typical Duties Provides diagnostic and treatment services to patients including benign and malignant disease. Works a minimum of four (4) clinic days and two (2) O.R. days per week up to 2080 hours per year for CCH, or the equivalent as specified by the Division Chief and Division Chair. Obtains and maintains surgical privileges and remains clinically active at Stroger Hospital and/or Provident as assigned by the Division Chief and the Division Chair. Completes timely, accurate, and thorough medical record documentation as required to meet appropriate department and/or hospital guidelines. Participates in the education and training of fellows, residents, and medical students rotating in the division. Responds promptly to all on‑call queries from fellows or residents; communicates with other Attending Physicians and Surgeons as needed. Communicates promptly to the Division Chair all information necessary for the creation of assignments. Assists in developing new programs and processes that enhance patient care. Performs research activities; follows all ethical guidelines, as coordinated with and approved by the Division Chair and approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Participates in ongoing clinical trials and investigations offered in the division; participates in administrative committees servicing the department and hospitals as schedule permits. Attends Division and Department meetings on a regular basis and the Mortality and Morbidity conference as required. Requests appropriate specialty consultations and performs inpatient rounds and required resident teaching sessions as assigned and as clinical needs dictate. Participates in the on‑call rotations as specified by the Division Chair. Participates in Quality Assurance activities as assigned. Participates in opportunities for research and obligations regarding its performance via individual arrangement with the Division/Department Chair. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university. Licensed as a Physician and Surgeon in the State of Illinois prior to starting employment. Must be cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services by the start of employment. Board Certification in Urology or must be on a pathway leading to certification within five (5) years of terminal training. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics Current knowledge of the principles and methods of Urologic Surgery to ensure quality and standards of care. Skill in the application of the principles and methods of Urologic Surgery to ensure quality and standards of care. Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical research to help implement clinical protocols/internal research. Knowledge of the principles and methods of training medical staff to ensure standards of care. Skill to analyze data/information accurately in order to determine and implement an effective and appropriate course of action. Skill to prepare written documents to provide information and/or direction to staff and others. Skill to communicate effectively in order to exchange and/or provide information and/or direction to staff and others. Demonstrate the ability to follow department‑specific work rules, hospital and personnel rules. Ability to meet requirements of the on‑call schedule. Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision in decision making. Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices and the appropriate use of the electronic health record (EHR). Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged. Ability to follow hospital protocol when exposed to noise, chemicals, disease, blood‑borne pathogens, patient violence and procedural injuries. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed. Ability to meet department and divisional productivity thresholds. Must be able to travel to work sites throughout Cook County. Coast Guard must submit a certified copy of the military separation from either the Department of Transportation (Before 9/11) or the Department of Homeland Security (After 9/11). A copy of a valid State ID Card or Driver’s License which identifies the holder of the ID as a Veteran may also be attached to the application at time of filing. Discharge papers must list and honorable discharge status. Discharge papers not listing an honorable discharge status are not acceptable. If items are not attached, you will not be eligible for Veteran Preference.
