Caregiver / Personal Care Assistant

Caregiver / PCAs work in a home care environment and dedicate themselves to assisting individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as using the bathroom, preparing or eating meals, executing hygiene and grooming habits, taking medication, bathing, and completing housework or other chores. Must work a minimum of 30 hours per month.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have completed personal care training program and competency.
• Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly.
• Ability to carry out directions, read and write.
• Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.

CAREGIVER/PCA RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist clients with personal hygiene, including shower, tub or bed baths, oral care, hair, and skincare.
• Assist clients in the use of toilet facilities, including bedpans.
• Assist clients in and out of bed, excluding the use of mechanical lifting equipment unless trained and documented as competent.
  Transferring to and from bed to mobility devices, bathroom commodes, etc.
• Assist clients with walking, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.
• Assist clients with self-administration of medications.
• Meal preparation and feeding, when required.
• Assist with prescribed exercises when the client and the aide have been instructed by the appropriate health professional.
• Record and report changes in the client's physical condition, behavior or appearance to a supervisor or Case Coordinator.
• Documenting services delivered in accordance with Productive Homecare policies and procedures.

LIFTING REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to perform the following tasks if necessary:
• Ability to participate in physical activity.
• Ability to work for an extended period while standing and being involved in physical activity.
• Heavy lifting.
• Ability to do extensive bending, lifting, and standing regularly.
